IMMUNIZATION -primes the bodies to prevent recurrence.
This week was very interesting and eye opener for me. I learned a lot of and confirmed a lot. But what stood out to me the most was the topic of IMMUNIZATIONS. In the United States we are truly blessed compared to Nigeria and surrounding countries, we have enough supply to keep our children through immunizations. Even though some parents choose not to allow their children to receive immunizations its here and it does help to prevent a lot of childhood illness that use to be prone to kill our children or disable them in past decades. One was Polio, it was a disease that crippled and sometimes it was fatal. "Widespread vaccination, begun in 1955, eliminated polio in the Americas" (Kathleen Stassen Berger, pg. 149). I had a student who grandmother was crippled by these disease because there were no vaccinations when she was born. It didn't kill her but she was not able to walk but her soul was amazing. She voiced her opinion very strongly about the importance of getting the vaccinated if it was available to you. It has resurfaced in years but the number are have improved since recent decades.
But in other countries where finances and poverty places an significant role they have limited or no access to immunizations. Children in these countries die from these such as the whooping cough but here in the United States children have a greater chance of not contracting or just surviving the disease. The oral polio vaccine containing the live polio virus is used in poor countries because it is cheap." But the vaccine is said to be CAUSING a mutant polio virus to spread. In Nigeria, 124 children were paralyzed in 2009". They are getting the medicine but at a cheaper cost so it is endangering the lives of million at such a rapid rate. The government is mandating more rules and regulations.
PROS to IMMUNIZATIONS
"Immunizations protects children not only from temporary sickness but also from serious complications, including deafness, blindness, sterility, and meningitis." (Kathleen Stassen Berger, pg. 150).
When a child is receiving the proper immunizations they help stop and prevent the spread of diseases, that not only helps to protect that child but others who may come in contact with them.
CONS to not IMMUNIZATIONS:
As I mentioned earlier some parents she to not have their child vaccinated because of their personal beliefs, religious beliefs, or just their own thoughts of possible side effects.
"Many parents are concerned about the potential side effects; the rate of missed vaccinations has been rising over the past decades" (Kathleen Stassen Berger, pg. 151)
"About 2 to 3 million children die each year from diphtheria, tetanus, and measles because they have not been immunized (Mahmoud, 2004).
Immunizations is very important and the future of our children and our country. We must take a stand to secure vaccinations for all children in the United States as well as in other countries. Its important because it saves lives and prevents the widespread of crippling and fatal diseases.

Personal Birthing Experience
Never in a million years I would have thought that I would
be a mother. I found out I was expecting right after my 29 birthday. Very
nervous and scared to have someone growing inside of me and depending on me. I
had a very hard pregnancy at six months I started to have Braxton Hicks
contraction and swelling of my feet and also I couldnt have any sodas and
limited amount of juice. At 7 1/2 months I started to hurt and always in pain
so I was put on bed rest. Emotionally it was wonderful to have this little
person growing and seemed to me she already had her very own personality. She
was an very active child and always moving around inside of me. I remember one
time I was craving chill dogs and my boyfriend went to get me four and I ate
them with so much pleasure after it was all gone my little one did all types of
movements and even kicked me so hard that you could see her little footprints.
I cried because this was so special to me. Well she was a week late and they
induce me from a Wednesday to a Friday which was Good Friday. I really didn't
experience any labor pain besides sharp back pain. After three days they took
me in for a emergency surgery my blood was not good and they didn't want her to
go in to stress. At 11:38am on April 10, 2009 My Kaylee Nicole Smith entered
this world and changed everything about my life. She was so adorable and I was
the happiest person in the world not matter how many problems I had before that
day they all went away after she came into this world.
My feelings towards becoming a mother and experiencing childbirth it is amazing and a blessing from my GOD. I have always heard my grandparents say that giving birth is a toll on a women because of the risks, (my granny use to say its like life and death). Child birth is amazing experience and I cherished each moment of those pregnancy days and labor pains. If I had to do it again would I yes! To ensure your child is developing correctly you need to go to the doctors, think positive, read to your unborn while they are in the womb, eat healthy, and have a positive support group.

Determination
Today as I dropped my lil one at daycare. She looked at me and said mommy I love you for who you are? I said Kaylee I love you too but who am I! She said the person who loves me and other little kids and you the BEST! And of course I cried tears of joy!
My favorite children's book "Charoltte's Web!"
I love Charlotte's Web! I think because it showed how different animals can work together to have some success and showed that giving up was not a option. I think us as humans could learn from the way the animals interacted to help the spider get things done and no matter how tired she was never let her friend down.

Herbert Hoover, 31st U.S. president
"Children are our most valuable resource."
This quote says it all!
When I think about the children of today I get teary because most children don't have a foundation that will help them be successful in life! I had a friend say to me why do you limit her tv, because tv is to me the devil workshop. I don't want my child to look up to celebrities. I want her to know that being successful doesn't mean being on tv but it means that you did you Best and you achieve a Goal.
